Career Opportunities with Computer Science Degree in UK

If you are pursuing a bachelor degree in Computer Science then you are preparing for technological jobs of the future. You have developed skills in computing with a strong programming and mathematics as well as softer skills in project management, presentation skills and teamwork. With this degree, you can orient your learning towards particular areas of interest such as machine learning, web development, data science and video games. You can also apply for a range of computational and mathematical jobs in the creative industries, business, finance, education, medicine engineering and science.
You should also consider compiling a portfolio of your own independent projects outside of your degree, which could be in the form of programming, or even building an small app. This will demonstrate your skills and interest in the subject and the  problem-solving skills, creativity and initiative to employers.

Some of the common career options after bsc computer science include:

IT consultant

IT consultants are contracted to work with industrial and commercial clients who are seeking help and advice about business and IT problems. They work to improve the structure and efficiency of IT systems in various organisations.

Application analyst

Application analysts are responsible for supporting applications programmed with a variety of programming languages and using a variety of database systems. An analyst works within IT departments alongside application developers and software engineers.

Cyber security analyst

Maintaining cyber security in the modern world has become increasingly important. This profile includes responsibility  to analyse security breaches and restore or reinforce systems against such breaches, to ensure that confidential data is protected.

VFX artist

VFX artists does not need much of explanation, however, you needs to know how they work. They create animations and special effects and  typically work on movies, television shows, or video games. They work closely with engineering and design teams, to ensure maximum visual quality.

Database administrator

Database administrator are involved in the planning and development of the database, as well as in troubleshooting any issues on behalf of the users. This role includes ensuring data remains consistent, easily accessible, secure and can be recovered in an emergency.

Technical writer

Technical writers produce descriptions or instructions to help people understand how to use a product or service, just like a manual. This profession needs strong technical knowledge and by studying computer science, you have gained it.

Penetration tester

As a penetration tester, you will have the role to simulate cyber attacks and report security flaws on computer systems, networks and infrastructure, including internet sites. This role needs excellent attention to detail, analytical skills and strong technical abilities
