How E-Learning Will Change Due to the Pandemic
Long before the current global health crisis hit our shores and disrupted the current school year, e-learning has always been there for students who yearn for alternative teaching methods. However, the pandemic has forced almost all students to take on distance learning — and this required many educators and learning institutions to make adjustments to maximise its effectiveness. Here, we’ll take a look at how these distressing times have changed the current approach to e-learning.

Using Student Management Systems

Right now, there’s a huge need for schools and learning institutions to be efficient and have a foolproof structure. Because of this, more and more schools are looking to school management software. Through programs like these, schools will have an easier time to manage their faculty and class offerings. Furthermore, using school management software can even enhance a student’s learning experience. Our post ‘Why Should You Use Education Software In Your Institution?’ points out that using school management software forces an institution to evolve and promote creativity and involvement among students. Since this is a cloud-based service, school management software can be used remotely and even be customised according to an institution’s needs.

Discounted and Free Learning Services

Not only has the pandemic affected the school year, but it has also challenged the financial situation of families across the country. Some parents might consider distance learning programs initiated by schools to lack in some aspects. And because of that, they might want to supplement their child’s education by having them subscribe to a learning platform. Thankfully, a lot of learning platforms have been issuing discounts and even allowing free access to their services. Students can explore more about literature, algebra, biology and chemistry by checking out Course Hero’s free study guides. Encyclopaedia Britannica is also offering free access to its “LaunchPacks,” which present educational articles, images, and videos through an engaging interface.

AR/VR Integration in Learning

Who would’ve imagined that augmented and virtual reality would’ve made its way to different industries and walks of life? In fact, it even found its way to virtual classrooms. Tech writer Daniel Ling points out how the technology adds more interactive dimensions to learning, with apps like AR anatomy providing new and more exciting ways for kids to learn outside of the classroom. And the pandemic has made its ability to do this even more crucial. Now, even educators who have no technical training can use AR and VR tools to enhance their virtual classes. With apps like Eyejack, they can make their Powerpoint presentations more fun and engaging.

Despite the pandemic, e-learning will see itself to be integrated with more innovations and technologies. However, freelance writer Dennis Pierce advises that students and instructors should practice cybersecurity measures to protect themselves. As students and educators move to the digital classroom, they make themselves vulnerable to cyberattacks. So, anyone who participates in e-learning should be extra vigilant in keeping themselves safe online.
